Lady Tigers looking to the future as season closes

As the Rockdale Lady Tigers close the curtain on the 2009 volleyball season, they are immediately looking toward the future. With losses to Caldwell and then Madisonville Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium, the Lady Tigers finish the season at 7-21 overall and 1-11 in District 24-3A play. Full Story

BARTLETT—Milano has dropped two straight after starting its season 5-0 and its hopes for a playoff spot in District 26-A is in its own hands. The Eagles dropped to 1-2 in league play and 5-2 overall after a 28-6 road loss to Bartlett (5-2, 2-1) Friday night. Full Story

CROSS COUNTRY QUALIFIERS—Coach Dusty Loewe's boys cross country team qualified for the regional meet in Humble on Nov. 7 by placing second to Taylor at the District 24-3A meet Saturday in Cameron. Juan Rubio was the top Tiger individual qualifier after placing third at the district meet. Jacon Gerren also qualified after finishing 10th. Jose Buentello was 12th, Jose Ruelas 23rd, Francisco Romo 28th and Robert Ramos 29th. For the girls, Emily Ammon was 15th, Victoria Drake 24th, Aubri Litchauer 28th and Mara McAdams 36th. Vadim Riobov was nnth for the junior high boys. Team members include: Bottom—Vadim Riobov, Jacob Gerren, Juan Rubio, Stefan Hinijosa. Lady Eagles are perfect; waiting on playoff foe
No. 9 Milano enters post season with 15 game winning streak in tow
MILANO—The No. 9 ranked Milano Lady Eagles completed its district schedule undefeated, never losing a set, on Friday in a routing of Calvert at Geneva Paceley Gym. The Lady Eagles (29-10, 10-0) are District 16-A champions for the second consecutive year and will have a first round bye in the postseason. Full Story
Lady Dogs play their way into playoff picture with big wins
Victory over Thrall produces tie for second between rivals
Thorndale Lady Dog clinched a playoff spot with wins over Bartlett Tuesday night and rival Thrall on Friday. Thorndale (14-19) and Thrall are tied for second place in District 25A with identical 5-3 league marks. Granger, who went undefeated in loop play, claimed the district crown. Full Story
Cross country teams ready for district
Local cross countr y teams got one last contest in before their district meet and fared well against bigger schools. Milano's varsity boys were seventh in the team standings out of 13 in Crockett. The team was paced by Ryan Karl who was 18th with a time of 19:16. John Paniagua was right behind him at 19th and a time of 19:23. Full Story

AUSTIN-Hunting prospects for this year's quail season are scattered like a busted covey as less-than-ideal range conditions have hampered production for the second straight year. Milam now two-buck county, TP&W says
Milam County will be a twobuck county when the general deer season opens on Saturday, Nov. 7, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Game Warden Charles Mayer met with hunters in Rockdale and Cameron Saturday to outline the new antler restrictions. Full Story
