Square dancers host annual event

THORNDALE—The Kountry Squares Square Dancing Club of Thorndale, Texas held its annual Harvest Dance at the Fireman's Hall in Thorndale, featuring both square and round dancing.

The dance was attended by 120 dancers from the entire central Texas region.

"At one time there were 14 squares on the dance floor," according to Jeanne Sparlin, club spokesperson.

She said Melton Luttrel called the square dancing.

"Melton has been a member of the Square Dancer's Hall of Fame since 1977," she said.

Round dancers were called by Jerry and Lucy Pate of Round Rock.

"The club provided a dinner focused on taco soup with many snacks, side dishes and desserts," she said.

Kountry Squares dance every Thursday night at the VFW Hall in Thorndale and have members from Taylor, Thorndale, Thrall, Elgin and Rockdale.
