Priest's trial delayed until at least Nov. 30th
The sexual offense trial of Father Stephen Valenta in 20th District Court has been delayed from Nov. 16 to Nov. 30 but Prosecutor Kerry Spears expects it will be delayed longer than that.
"It's just not likely to come to trial Nov. 30 because there are other cases which, by law, must be tried first," she said.
Father Valenta, 85, a resident of Staten Island, New York, is free on $35,000 bond after being indicted on charges of sexual assault and prohibited sexual conduct.
Rockdale police have said the charges stem of allegations o involving a female family member, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church rectory on East Davilla Street in May, 2008.
