Genealogy Society holds meeting

The Milam Count y Genealogical Society met Tuesday, Oct. 27 in the Hogan-Hall Building next to the Chamber of Commerce, with 11 members and two guests attending. Vice-President Sara Proctor presided in Randy Billingsley's absence.

Judy Matherne presented a program on the extensive research files she inherited from her Jarmon/ Jarman family members.

The files included land deeds, copies of wills, tax rolls and other legal papers from earlier family members. Many of the copies were of original hand-written legal papers. She also displayed a copy of "Stuck in the Mud at Post Oak Island", a biographical sketch of many of the families that lived in the area around Post Oak Island in Williamson County. Several of her related family names are mentioned in the book.

A nominating committee composed of Barbara Wright, Eugenia Newton and Lanell Spence was selected to nominate officers for 2010. These officers will be nominated, elected and installed at our Jan. 26 meeting.

Milam County Genealogical Society will not have a meeting in November. Our final meeting of the year will be a Christmas fellowship at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 at the home of Patricia McKee, 2009 Skyles, Rockdale. All members are encouraged to attend and bring an inexpensive, $5 or less, gift-wrapped item.- Linda Whorton, publicity
