Cross country teams qualify for regionals

SHINER—Three area teams have qualified for the Class A Region IV cross country meet with their performances at the District 29A race.

The Thorndale Lady Dogs varsity girls won their seventh consecutive district championship, sending the team to the regional race Saturday, Nov 7 at Brooks City Base in San Antonio.

Joining them will be the varsity boys' teams from both Thorndale and Milano. Those squads finished first and second, respec- tively, at the district meet.

Thorndale's girls finished just ahead of rival and second place Thrall.

Kara Niemtschk was the top finisher for the Lady Dogs with a second place time. Kristen Butterworth was third, followed by Brandi Munoz in fourth for Thorndale's other top medalists.

Also running for the Lady Dogs were Jordan Heine (11th place), Lizzie Marr (20th), Heather Butterworth (28th) and Olivia Atkins (30th).

Milano's lone entry, Ashleigh Dykes, placed 24th.

Thorndale varsity boys took the top spot in the overall team race, followed by Milano. Thrall was the third place team, also qualifying for the regional meet.

Tanner Thomas was the Bulldogs' top finisher at third place, followed by Keon Mays with a fourth place finish. Milano's John Paniagua was fifth. Other Top 10 medalists were Thorndale's Pete Garcia with the eighth fastest time on the 3.1 mile course and Milano's Ryan Karl in 10th.

Also running for Thorndale were Dillon Irwin (11th), Colton Youngblood (16th), Aaron Laurence (17th) and Sam Richter (30th).

Milano's other runners were Toby Sanders (14th), Trevor Gage (23rd), Jordan Hughes (28th) and Wynton Thomason (39th).
