New baseball field changes strike out with trustees
Lack of enthusiasm for scaled-back facility puts project on hold
The plan to "modernize" Rockdale High School's baseball field has struck out. At least for this year, that is. A revised proposal to proceed with a scaled-back renovation died for lack of a second during a called school board meeting Monday evening. Full Story
Cameron resident dies at Fort Hood
A 62-year-old Cameron man, who had only recently returned to work at Fort Hood after a hear t attack, was one of 13 persons killed Thursday, Nov. 5, in the shooting rampage on the base. Full Story

Council calls Jan. 9 election for open seat
Calame files for west-ward spot; Shuffield declares as write-in
Rockdale City Council called a special election for Jan. 9 to fill the vacant west-side seat and two people have filed for the position. Doug Calame, a plant operator for Luminant, filed for the spot. Calame served two terms on the Wortham City Council, then served as mayor of that town for three years. Full Story

Rockdale Historical Society members got a huge boost last week in Tyler when the I&GN Depot was named "Best Restoration" in the state at the Texas Downtown Association conference. Dedications, open house next week for high school
A dedication ceremony, followed by tours of the new Rockdale High School, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the school rotunda, 500 Childress Street. RISD Supt. Howell Wright and the board of trustees invite the public to attend this celebration. Additions to the high school doubled its size. Full Story
