Awards flow for youth at Milam 4-H banquet

Milam Count y 4-H celebrated on Sunday by honoring the successes of numerous 4-H'ers across the county with attendance around 200. Weston Fisher, county council chairman, served as master of ceremonies.

Corolyn Holub and Sterling Faulkner from the Rockdale 4-H Club were named Milam County Gold Star Winners for 2009.

They received awards from: plaques from the Cameron Chamber of Commerce presented by Ginger Watkins, Chamber manager; $100 checks from Milam County Farm Bureau and Milano Livestock Exchange presented by Jay Beckhusen; county certificates and special certificate from John Carter, 31st Congressional District of Texas, presented by Justice of the Peace Chip Dunsmoor. Parents of the Gold Star Winners are Bonnie and Eugene Holub Jr. and Robin and Jim Faulkner.

Marek Burns Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron sponsors the plaques and Ed Laywell presented the awards to: Carson Cobb and Collin Kostroun of Cameron 4-H, and Danielle Pedroza of Thorndale 4-H. Proud parents are: Melissa and Eric Cobb, David and Jennifer Kostroun, and Stacey and Joe Pedroza.

Bronze Star Award winners are 4-H'ers 8- 10 years of age. David Barkemeyer, Cameron mayor, sponsored the awards to the following 4-H'ers: Chandler Barton and Patrick Cobb of Cameron 4-H, and Patrick Dean of Rockdale 4- H. Parents are Monica and Jason Barton, Melissa and Eric Cobb, and Susan and Tiny Dean.

Mr., Miss 4-H

Milam County 4-H clubs conducted fund raising activities during the months of August through November. The money raised helps 4-H'ers and leaders throughout the year. Prince and Princess as well as Mr. and Miss 4-H are based on the net profit from the fund raisers.

Other 4-H Club nominees in running for Prince and Princess were: Gause 4-H nominees, Sarah Meierdierck and Matt Farr.

Carson Cobb and Colton Coufal of the Cameron 4-H Club were named Mr. and Miss 4-H. Rockdale 4-H club nominees Elaine Luckey and William Dean were second.

I Dare You Awards are presented to senior 4-H'ers who have shown leadership and community service leadership skills. This year's winners were: William Dean of Rockdale; Elaine Luckey of Rockdale; Taylor McWilliams of Thorndale. Each award winner received an I Dare You book and a certificate.

Twelve 4-H'ers received 4-H Jackets as first time state award winners.
