Yes, elephants. The Carson & Barnes Circus came to town, an event sponsored by the Rockdale Rotary Club that drew two large crowds under the big top.

The event raised $1,776 for Rotary activities, including the annual Rotary Club scholarships which are presented every spring to deserving Rockdale High School seniors.

The Rockdale stop was part of Carson & Barnes' 73rd annual tour of the United States.

The circus boasts what's touted as the "biggest big top on earth," a tent that covers an area almost the size of a football field.

Carson & Barnes also features the world's largest traveling menagerie.

The circus travels to 200 towns in a 10-month season.

Acts included aerial trapeze, high wire, motorcycle acrobatic teams, jugglers, clowns, camels, dogs, horses and more.

And, of course, elephants.

The Ferrari Sisters from Argentina brought trapeze thrills high above the arena to crowds in two performances. Carson & Barnes brought plenty to Fair Park on Thursday including Freddy Acero (L), billed as "Alex, the World-Renowned King of Comedy," who demonstrated his trampoline skills in addition to his clowning.
