Our Local Hero this week is Paul Unger. Paul has lived in Rockdale for four years and is retired from Delphi which is a division of General Motors. He is very involved in Rockdale, especially the El Camino Real Chapter Master Naturalist of which he is the president.
He has put a tremendous amount of time and knowledge into getting the chapter through its first two years. He has volunteered over 2,200 hours during the last two years towards the success of thechapter. He has been instrumental in working on the Rockdale Forum which meets the fourth Thursday of every month as an information meeting on various topics of local and scientific nature interests— rainwater harvesting, horntoad DNA study, to name a few.
Many committees are up and running because of Paul's effort to help everyone find their interest area of nature. He was the main recruiter for the 2009 Class. Because of Paul's dedication the El Camino Real Chapter Master Naturalist is recognized as a major volunteer organization in Milam County.
He is a member of Peace Lutheran Church, and also is a flintknapper, and a fellow and life member in the National Speliogical Society (cave explorer and conservationist).
We appreciate Paul for his hard work in Rockdale.
We also appreciate Love's Flowers and Gifts and El Torito Mexican Restaurant for the gifts they provide our Local Hero each week.
If you would like to nominate a local hero, those who work selflessly for our community, call the Chamber of Commerce at 446- 2030. This honor will be given to people who work hard to make our community better.—Denice Doss, Chamber president
