Milam Lions food drive to benefit needy

Milam County Lions Clubs are holding a food drive to benefit the three food banks in the county that provide food and supplies to those in need. All food collected will stay in Milam County.

Milam County Food Banks are in dire need.There are more people than ever right now, needing assistance.

This county wide event was originally organized by the Cameron Lions Club, but has expanded to include the Rockdale, Buckholts and Milano Lions Clubs.

Brookshire Brothers is also participating by having special bags printed up for this project.

If you are not contacted and want to give to this project, items may be dropped off at the Rockdale Reporter or Rockdale Memorial Company in Rockdale, Milam County Extension Office or Ideal Poultry in Cameron, to Wanda Lee in Gause, James Walker in Milano, Rodenbeck Farm and Ranch in Thorndale, and Buckholts State Bank in Buckholts.

Any donations of can goods, peanut butter, flour, sugar, rice, beans, pasta, tuna and canned meats are accepted.

Processed deer meat and frozen hens and turkeys are used this time of year.

They also accept monetar y donations.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
