Rockdale turns out for vets

Rockdale waved a few f lags, and shed a few tears, Saturday morning as the annual Veterans Day parade made its way down US 79 (Cameron Avenue).

Derik Strelsky, spokesman for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 listed, parade winners as follows:

Commanders award—Harry and Cathy Ormsby.

Best workmanship—Thorndale Chamber of Commerce.

Best decorated—Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Judges award—Skeet Quinney.

Most patriotic—Staff Sgts. Misty Sierra and husband Ricky Sierra (just back from Iraq).

The parade included a large number of current, and former, military personnel, including grand marshal Herbert Dupre, a Vietnam veteran, and special guest Lesley Rodgers, a veteran of both Iraq wars.

Others participating in the parade were Staff Sgt. John Russell and wife, Specialist Samantha Russell and Specialists Travis Anderson and Thomas Diaz.
