Thorpe

CAMERON—Funeral services for Rodney Thorpe, 64, of Cameron were held Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.

Mr. Thorpe died Saturday, Nov. 7, in a Temple hospital.

A letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, he was born June 13, 1945, in Cameron to Richard Leland Thorpe and Stella Inez Whitley.

Mr. Thorp was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He married Kathleen Urban on Sept. 20, 1980.

Mr. Thorpe was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Thorpe of Cameron; two sons, Doyle DeWayne Thorpe of Huntsville, Chad Miller of Cameron; two daughters, Sheila Thomas of Rosebud, Misti Anderson of Waco; and three sisters, Margaret (Maggie) Voges of Elgin, Inez Sanborn of LaGrange, Maine, Luciann Smith of Huntsville; also, five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
