Alcoa retirees to host meal Dec. 10 at KC Hall

Alcoa Retirees will host their Christmas meal at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, according to LaNell Spence, spokesperson.

"A turkey and dressing meal will be served and retirees need to bring a dessert and a gift," she said.

"You must bring a gift to receive a ticket for the prize drawing," Spence said.

A Czech band from Taylor will provide music, she said.

Masons to sell BBQ at parade Saturday

THORNDALE—Members of the Thorndale Masonic Lodge will sell barbecue sandwiches and sausage on a stick at the Thorndale Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 5. The booth will be located at the south end of Main Street and they will start their sales at 10 a.m., according to Marcia Felton, spokesperson.

Genealogy Society sets Christmas social Dec. 11

Milam County Genealogical Society's final meeting of the year will be a Christmas fellowship at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 at the home of Patricia McKee, 2009 Skyles, Rockdale. All members are encouraged to attend and bring an inexpensive, $5 or less, gift-wrapped item.- Linda Whorton, publicity

Chamber will sponsor New Year's Eve dance

Rockdale Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a New Year's Eve dance from 6 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Dec. 31 at the KC Hall on East US 79.

Denice Doss, Chamber president, said a catered meal will begin at 6:30 p.m. provided by Touch of Elegance. The 80's band "Roman Holiday" will begin playing music at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $125 per couple ($75 for a single) and are good for the catered meal, eight drink coupons, snacks throughout the evening and hats and noise-makers at midnight.

A special hotel package is available for $200 and includes all of the above plus pickup to and from the hotel and a $50 hotel coupon.

Tickets may be purchased by calling 446-2030 or in person at the Chamber office. Visa and MasterCard will be accepted.

Local Girl Scouts announce meetings

Rockdale Girl Scouts are holding regular weekly meetings at the Girl Scout House, 412 Murray Street. Kristi Pyeatt, spokesperson, said the meetings are held on the following schedule:

• Daisy (grades K-1)—Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• Brownies (grades 2-3)— Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• Juniors (grades 4-5) and Cadettes (grades 6-8 )—Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m.


Local Relay For Life now county-wide event

Same event, new name.

The Relay For Life of Rockdale is now Relay For Life of Milam County, according to local chairperson Trina Edwards.

Relay For Life sets kickoff event Sunday

It's time to kick off the 2010 Relay For Life season. Milam County's Relay For Life will have a kickoff party from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at Shrimps in Rockdale, according to Marie Bakken, communications chair. The restaurant is located at the southwest corner of Main and Cameron Ave. (US 79).

"We will have cake and iced tea to celebrate the birthdays of our survivors," Bakken said. "This is also an opportunity for cancer survivors and team members to register for the 2010 Relay."
