Christmas time kicks off Friday on Main Street
This is our big Christmas week in Rockdale. Everything kicks off on Friday starting with Santa in the Depot and the Flag Raising and Tree Lighting at Wolf Park at 5 p.m.
The Depot will serve their sausage wraps starting at 4:45 p.m. The night parade has grown into quite a tradition and the entries are fabulous.
I hope you are getting your floats ready. And walkers, we have an Elf Division to carry the candy and throw to the crowd plus it adds so much to the parade.
NOTE: If anyone wants to donate candy for the elves to throw just bring it by the Chamber by Friday. I'm dusting off my elf costume and I'm ready for the parade.
Bring out your flashlights and your glo-necklaces and get ready for a parade. Kids, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be waiting in the depot for you.
There will be entertainment on the streets with a Community Sing at 6 p.m., Murray St Singers at 6:30 and then Communities in Concert Band at 6:45.
It will just be a great time of celebrating Christmas together as a town and I know you want to be a part of that. Having the parade at 7:30 gives everyone a chance to get home from work and for the traffic to calm down a little bit.
There will also be Open Houses all through town on Friday with door prizes and refreshments.
Locations are Antique Queens, Love's Flowers and Gifts, Christian Information Book Store, Climate Control, DR Loans, Rockdale Signs and Photography, Shrimp's, Healing Handzz, Orsag's, and Ram Optical and I know you can get some major Christmas shopping done that night.
Then the next day is Market Day and another shopping opportunity all around town.
Tisket A Tasket will have its shopping on the grounds, Pam's Beauty Shop will have a $7 Haircut Cutathon from 10-2 with proceeds going to the food pantry, and Meadowbrook Baptist Church will have a bazaar on the Chamber grounds with gifts and baked goods and hotdogs to snack on.
Market Day sponsors are Antique Queens, Kountry Inn, Thornton Enterprises and Pam's Beauty Shop. Get out and shop Rockdale.
