Van Gogh exhibit at RISD
One of the world's most beloved and most misunderstood artist is coming to Rockdale Elementary and Rockdale Intermediate schools Dec. 1-11, according to Michele Fletcher, art teacher for the two campuses. A wonderful traveling exhibit of some of van Gogh's most famous works will be here for you to marvel at and enjoy, she said.
The exhibit started at the Elementary on Dec.1 and will continue through Dec. 5 for all those coming to the PTO's Winter Festival. Bookmarks featuring some of the pictures and information about van Gogh will be on sale for 50 cents at the festival.
We want to give a big thank you to our PTO for helping us sponsor this event, Fletcher said.
The next week, Dec. 8-11, the exhibit will move to the Intermediate and will be on display for the UIL events that are being hosted by the Intermediate School. The display will feature a giant reproduction of "Starry Night."
"The pictures are so large, every brushstroke can be seen. Our children are familiar with Van Gogh," she said. "To them he is 'the dude that cut off his ear'."
"How exciting for them to see some of his works in a size that will allow them the opportunity to understand why van Gogh is among the best loved artists of all time," Fletcher said.
