Dad, two sons charged in burglaries, drug use

A Thorndale area father and t wo sons were charged w ith offenses ranging from theft to drug possession were filed last week in connection with a raid by the Milam County Sheriff's Department.

Arrested were:

• Jerry Griffith, 60, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, released on $3,000 bond.

• Herman Griffith, 19, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, released on $3,000 bond.

• Nathan Griffith, 26, two counts of theft of wire or cable, out-of-county charge, in custody on $21,500 bond.

Sheriff David Greene said he had received information there was "an unknown quantity of dope" in the Griffith residence, south of Thorndale off Griffith Lane.

The sheriff's office obtained a search warrant for the Griffith resident but, before executing the search warrant, arrested Nathan Griffith on a different charge.

Greene sa id inve st igators obtained evidence indicating Nathan Griffith was involved in the theft of a large amount of copper from a home construction site which had been burglarized south of Thorndale off FM 486.

Around midnight Greene led the department's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to serve the search warrant at the home.

"Entry was made into the residence when the occupants, Herman and Jerry Griffith, would not come to the door," Deputy Chris White said.

Greene located marijuana he said was hidden in the residence and SIU investigators located a rifle and tools believed to have been stolen and/or used in the commission of two burglaries.

"Also recovered were materials taken from the FM 486 construction site, which had been the site of two burglaries," White said.

He said additional charges may be filed pending further investigation into the two burglaries.

White said Herman Griffith is currently on probation for a previous burglary conviction.
