New MHS powerlifting team holding bake sale Saturday

The newly formed Milano High School Powerlifting team will hold a bake sale fund-raiser on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Walmart in Rockdale. This group of athletes is just starting this program and need to raise money to buy equipment and help them get ready for the meets. The powerlifting team is coached by Sean Connor.

Don't forget t hat t he Cit y of Milano's annual Christmas parade and Christmas decorating contest are in the coming weeks. The parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 12 with line up starting at 9:30 a.m. at Charlie Martin City Park. Judging of entries will be at 10 a.m. and the parade will start at 10:30. The parade route will come from the park, turn towards downtown at the football field, through the downtown area, circle past the Methodist and First Baptist churches and end at the Milano Civic Center/Fire Station. Santa will be in the parade and will meet with children at the Civic Center immediately following the parade.

The City will once again offer a free Christmas dinner after the parade in the center. First through fourth place trophies and cash prizes for parade winners will be presented at this time as well. The Christmas decorations contest for the City of Milano will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. Be sure to have your homes decorated and the Christmas lights on that day. First through fourth place plaques and cash prizes will be awarded at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21 at the Civic Center.

Milano's Project Graduation would like to thank everyone that participated in their recent fund-raisers of tamale sales and bull bingo. Winner of the Bull Bingo was Conrade Brown of Lexington.

Mark your calendars early for the Christmas holidays. Milano students will be released early on Friday, Dec. 18 and be out for the Christmas holidays until Jan. 4. Classes will resume that day at regular times.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day. Our family enjoyed visiting with other family members and friends. Of course, the food was great and we all ate too much. Plans are already underway for our Christmas family gatherings.

In sports action, the Milano varsity boys basketball team will play in the Dime Box tournament over the weekend. On Monday, Dec. 7 the junior high boys host Thorndale for games at 5 p.m. Dec. 8 will see the junior varsity girls host Mumford, followed by the junior varsity and varsity boys hosting Burton. First game starts at 5 p.m.

This weekend the varsity girls will play in the Anderson tournament. On Saturday, Dec. 5 the seventh and eighth grade girls teams will participate in a Thorndale tournament. The junior high girls will travel back to Thorndale on Dec. 7 for games starting at 5 p.m.
