Alford

Services for Jean LaRue Alford, 83, of Rockdale will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Alford died Saturday, Nov. 28, at Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale.

A lifelong Rockdale resident, she was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Waterloo to Jim and Ruth (Sides) Talley.

She married Roy J. Alford Sr. on Jan. 11, 1947, in Rockdale.

Mrs. Alford was a rancher and homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale and was very active in Vacation Bible School for many years.

Mrs. Alford was a 1944 Rockdale High School graduate, served on the board of directors for Southwest Milam Water Supply for a number of years and was a founding member of Rockdale Historical Society and served as the first president.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy J. Alford Sr., on Sept. 20, 1987; five brothers, Ray, Leonard, Earl, Newborn and Dale Talley; and six sisters, Jimmie Hose, Quida Long, Esta Anderson, Artie B. Gee, Wanda King and Martha Talley.

Survivors are three sons, Roy J. Alford Jr., Barkley Alford and James (Jim) Alford, all of Rockdale; a brother, J.T. Talley of Rockdale; and three grandchildren, Trent Alford of Austin, Ashley Alford and Skylor Alford, both of Belton.
