Deputies, constables help out in chase, Cameron drug bust

Two Milam County Sheriff’s Department deputies and two constables assisted Cameron police in making a drug arrest Monday.

Billy Way ne Johnson, 24, of Cameron was charged with possession of marijuana (less than 2 ounces) in a drug-free zone and is being held without bond.

Deputy Chris White said Cameron police were advised of possible drug activity in the area of Seventh and MLK just before 3 p.m.

“Traffic Deputy Justin Mitchan located a vehicle matching the description of the one reported to have been used in the drug activity,” White said.

“A traffic stop for defective equipment was initiated at 8th and MLK and a passenger in the vehicle fled on foot,” he said.

Deput y Mitchan and Constables John Anderle and Herbie Vaughan pursued and the suspect was apprehended three blocks away with the help of Cameron Police Detective Kris Stringer, Ofc. John Mendoza and Deputy Eddie Veracruz.

Johnson Johnson White said the vehicle driver was issued a citation and released.

Sexual assault

Deputy Sheriff Jay Beathard is investigating a report of sexual assault of a child in the Minerva area.

The report was made Thursday.
