Local heroes

Billie and Ralph Roe Billie and Ralph Roe Our Local Hero this week is a couple—Ralph and Billie Roe. Ralph and Billie Roe bring Christmas Spirit to Rockdale in a big way every year by decorating two blocks of west Rockdale. For 30-plus years, the Roes have lived on Murray Street and decorated for the different seasons—definitely a bright spot in town. They say “it is something they like to do” and they do it well.

Until the last few years Mr. Roe put all of the decorations up but because of health problems in the last few years he has had good help from different people who wanted him to carry on the tradition.

Mr. Roe says that he loves to see the eyes of the little ones light up when they see the display and people stop by all the time to get up close to see it all.

The Roes say they can’t send a Christmas card to everyone in town and this is their way of wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

We appreciate the love the Roes show by putting up this fabulous exhibit each year, this year with the help of their grandson, Donnie.

We also appreciate Love’s Flowers & Gifts and El Torito Mexican Restaurant for the gifts they provide our Local Hero each week.

If you would like to nominate a local hero, those who work selflessly for our community, call the Chamber of Commerce at 446- 2030. This honor will be given to people who work hard to make our community better.—Denice Doss, Chamber president
