Hurta

Hurta Hurta BAYTOWN—A graveside service for Leon J. Hurta of Baytown, formerly of Rockdale, was held Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at New Salem Cemetery near Centerville.

Mr. Hurta died Sunday, Dec. 6.

He had resided in Baytown for the past 12 years and previously lived in Rockdale for 45 years.

Mr. Hurta was a World War II veteran, returning home in April 1945.

He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 37 years before his retirement.

Mr. Hurta enjoyed spending time with family and friends and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was the husband of Annie Louise Hurta for 62 years and the father of three daughters, Rebecca Dees, Janie Fuller and Linda Young. He was the Papaw to five grandchildren, Stephanie Louise Esmond, James Michael Hurta-Fuller, Jonathan Scott Fuller, Christina Louise Dees and Charles Joseph Dees. He was the father-in-law of Charles Dees and Jerry Young and was preceded in death by two much loved sons-inlaw, Randall Scott Hackfeld and James Michael Fuller.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, Joe and Effie Hurta; four brothers; six sisters; and in-laws, Teddy and Mae Rodell.

Pallbearers were Charles Dees, Jerry Young, Arthur Dunn, James Dunn, Daniel Rodell, Adolph Rodell and Teddy Ray Rodell.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Melcher, Leon Schneider, Dick Forger and Gene Goode.

Memorial may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
