Flu bug impacts state ADA during first two six weeks
Changing demographics and the flu bug’s effect on recent attendance were pointed out to Rockdale ISD trustees Thursday at Rockdale High School.
Karl Kacir, assistant superintendent for business, told board members 64.1 percent of the district’s students in 2009-10 are now in the “economically disadvantaged” category, a jump of 13 percent in one year. Full Story

Light judging set Thursday and Friday

2009 tax rebates fall 2%
Slowdown in retail sales not as bad as feared locally
Rockdale’s 2009 sales tax rebates followed a record year, but fell by only two percent, the Texas Comptroller’s Office reported.
2010 may be a more telling year locally as more workers’ SUB (Supplemental Union Benefit) pay runs out. A further slowing locally could also mirror the state and national economies, which struggled throughout 2009. Full Story
Twenty years ago, Bulldogs chisled out state title pedigree
The great flat and wide state of Texas will crown a whole new batch of state champions this weekend— I can’t remember how many we’re up to now, 20 or 25.
But it’s hard to comprehend that it was 20 years ago that the Thorndale Bulldogs captured that very first state championship that spawned a state title pedigree that is now up to seven crowns and counting. Full Story

Tigers grab second straight tourney championship

FR ANKLIN—After a pretty substantial helping of home cooking last weekend at their own tournament, the Rockdale Tigers ventured out to test their skills on the road.
The Tigers continued their dominant play in unfamiliar territory by walking off with the Franklin Tournament championship— their second title trophy in as many weeks. Full Story
