Annual cow-calf clinic slated Jan. 8

The 2010 Central Texas Cow/ Calf Clinic will be held on Friday, Jan. 8 at the Milano Livestock Exchange in Milano.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the program will begin at 9.

This year’s program w ill feat u re educ at iona l topic s important to the economics of livestock production. Animal health, protection, and welfare will be among the primary topics discussed. Dr. Tom Hairgrove, DVM, will present a program on identifying cattle health issues and a bull trichomoniasis regulation update.

Also being discussed will be specialty cattle markets presented by Dr. Jason Cleere. Mr. Hal Dumas, Special Ranger w ith Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association will give tips to those present to prevent cattle, horse and equipment theft.

Producers with prickly pear and other unwanted brush species will benefit from Dr. Charlie Hart’s program on control of these unwanted plants.

Further, Dr. David Anderson will present a Livestock Market Update and Dr. Don Renchie will present on Pesticide Laws & Regulations. The clinic is set to conclude at 3 p.m.

Cost for the clinic is $10 and includes a bbq lunch. Two CEUs (1 laws and regulations, 1 general) will be offered to those with a Private Pesticide Applicators License.

Also, producers with Beef Quality Assurance training will receive two BQA hours for their attendance.
