Twenty years ago, Bulldogs chisled out state title pedigree
The great flat and wide state of Texas will crown a whole new batch of state champions this weekend— I can’t remember how many we’re up to now, 20 or 25.
But it’s hard to comprehend that it was 20 years ago that the Thorndale Bulldogs captured that very first state championship that spawned a state title pedigree that is now up to seven crowns and counting. Full Story

Tigers grab second straight tourney championship

FR ANKLIN—After a pretty substantial helping of home cooking last weekend at their own tournament, the Rockdale Tigers ventured out to test their skills on the road.
The Tigers continued their dominant play in unfamiliar territory by walking off with the Franklin Tournament championship— their second title trophy in as many weeks. Full Story
David, Clark chosen for AP All-State football team
The Rockdale Tigers are well represented on this season’s Associated Press
Class 3A All- State football team as stalwarts Logan David and LeRaven Clark were named to the squad.
David, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound senior, is making his second appearance on the AP team, having been named honorable mention last season. Full Story
Eagles earn consolation trophy at St. Joe tourney
Milano’s Eagle basketball team brought back a consolation place trophy from the Bryan-St. Joseph, along with a couple of “feel good” wins, according to head coach Robbie Robinson.
The Eagles (7-4) defeated host St. Joseph 53-38 on Saturday in the tourney’s consolation game. Full Story
Melton named to All-Century spike team
AUSTIN—Milano’s Becky Melton, who led Milano to four straight state tournaments and dominated play in Class A, has been named to the University Interscholastic League’s All- Century volleyball team. Full Story
Ranked Lady Dogs nab third place at Franklin Tournament
Only loss to No. 1 ranked 3A team Bryan Rudder
The No. 23 Thorndale Lady Dogs took third place at the Franklin tournament over the weekend.
Their only loss in tourney play was to the No. 1 team in Class 3A. They also took on US 79 foe Taylor Tuesday night at Bulldog Gym drowning the Lady Ducks 60-35. Full Story

Gerthe attends driver’s academy
PHOENIX—New Breed Racing’s Alesi Gerthe recently attended the 15th Women in the Winner’s Circle Driver’s Academy here.
Gerthe was among fourteen talented female drivers from around the United States invited to attend phase one of the academy which focused on fitness, nutrition and mental preparation. Full Story
Thorndale’s Kieschnick chosen Class A all-state
Thorndale’ s Kristen Kieschnick was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class A allstate volleyball team last week.
The senior helped lead the Lady Dogs (14-20) to a second place finish in district 25A and an appearance in the postseason, losing in bi-district to Fayetteville. Full Story

Megan Shepard, daugh- ter of former Rockdale Tiger great Leigh Shepard, has been named first-team all-state on the Class 4A volleyball team.

NEVADA EXPOSURE—Anthony Lopez, 14, a member of the Cameron junior olympic cross country team, competed at the USA Track & Field championships in Reno, Nevada and was among 2,300 participants. Full Story

‘New season’ brings new hope of turnaround
The opening of district play is a chance to either remain in the status quo or turn things around for the better.
While getting closer to the turnstile, the Rockdale Lady Tigers could not overcome
poor shooting and weak rebounding night and lost their District 24-3A opener to Cameron Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium 37-25. Full Story
