Ten RHS band members make all-region

Milano, Thorndale also land musicians on honor bands

Twelve members of the Rockdale High School Big Blue Band competed for all-regional honors recently at Texas Association of Small School Region 18-26 auditions and 10 were placed on all-region bands, according to Joe Ray, director. Auditions were held Dec. 12 at Smithville High School.

This is the fourth year in a row at least 10 RHS band members have been selected for the honor bands.

In addition to the 10 members named all-regional, two were chosen as alternates, Ray said.

He listed results as follows:

All-region symphonic • Heather Vargas, flute. • Julie Hromcik, clarinet. • Ariel Buentello, bass clarinet. • Andreana Gonzalez, French horn. • Melinda Perez, French horn. • Doug Mauldin, tuba.

All-region concert • Andey Perez, flute. • Beth Davis, clarinet. • Clarissa Deleon, clarinet. • Tyler King, French horn.

Regional alternates

• Travis King, first alternate, baritone.

• Kenzie Oliver, fourth alternate, French horn.

Area students

Students from Milano and Thorndale also auditioned and earned all-region selections. Two advanced to area tryouts.

Elisabeth Thomason, a sophomore at Milano High School, earned first chair all-region in French horn out of 30 trying out. She also qualified for area for the second year in a row and will play in the symponic band.

Three student from Thorndale High School were named to the all-region bands. Joelene Tomecek auditioned on oboe and Coby Larkin on trombone. Matthew Larkin qualified for area on trumpet and will play on the symphonic band.
