Well, the Tigers get-up-andgo deserted them and they paid the price against a good team, losing to Jarrell 60-49 Friday afternoon.
The Tigers slip to 11-2 on the season, needing just one more victory to equal their win total from last season.
No Rockdale team has posted a winning record or a post-season appearance since 1997.
Jarrell, ranked No. 11 in Class 2A, improved to 14-0 on the year.
“Jarrell played pretty well and we didn’t play with the same fire that they did,” said Rockdale Coach Dusty Loewe. “They felt like it was a big deal and we went out there like it was practice.
“Jarrell is a well coached team that does all the fundamentals well and they have two very good players. If you throw out the first quarter, we win by two.”
Rockdale fell behind 18-5 in the first quarter, but outscored the Cougars the rest of the way.
The Tigers shot a miserable 30 percent from the field and leading scorers Will McQuitter and Lance Loewe combined to miss 27 shots (11-for-38).
McQuitter still pumped in 22 points, while Loewe added 11.
Loewe also racked up eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Kreece Cooper blistered the Tigers for 32 points, but most of his damage came at the free throw line where he converted 19-of-25 free throws, over twice as many as Rockdale attempted as a team.
Jarrell was 23-of-36 from the stripe to the Tigers’ 6-of-12.
