Monday final filing day for 2010 primaries

Monday, Jan. 4, is the final day to file for the March 2, 2010, Democratic or Republican primaries.

Candidates so far are:

Democrats— County judge, Frank Summers (incumbent); Commissioner, Precinct 4, Jeff Muegge; Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Tom Jones, Lisa Roden and Charles Hundle.

Barbara Vansa, county clerk (incumbent); Cindy Fechner, district clerk (incumbent); Kenneth Hollas, Precinct 2 commissioner (incumbent).

Danica Lara, county treasurer (incumbent); Donald Schuerman, Precinct 2 JP (incumbent); Twila Harris, Precinct 3 JP; Gary Northcott, Precinct 4 JP; Richard Stone, county chair.

Republicans— County judge, David Barkemeyer; Commissioner, Precinct 4, Buddy Johnson; Precinct 2 JP, Sam Berry.

GOP headquarters opening set Monday

CA MERON—Milam Count y Republicans will hold the grand opening of their new party headquarters at 106 S. Travis in Cameron from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4. The public is invited.

Cameron Chamber of Commerce director Ginger Watkins and other officials will be present to conduct the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Republican County Chairman Bill Whitmire said Republican candidates that are running for county office in 2010 will be introduced and will be available to meet with everyone. Refresh- ments will be served, he said.

H1N1 vaccine still available in county

Free H1N1 flu vaccine continues to be available at the county health department offices in Rockdale and Cameron but those wanting the vaccine need to schedule around the holidays.

This week the depar tment closes Thursday, Dec. 31 and reopens Monday, Jan. 4.

Flu-Mist vaccine is available for healthy persons 2 to 49 and there is a limited amount of injectable vaccine available for those 4 and older, Michelle Ferguson, spokesperson, said.

Rockdale office hours in the One-Stop Center, Bell at Main, are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Cameron office hours are Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City to flush water lines January 13th

The City of Rockdale will flush water lines on both east and west sides of town over night Wednesday, Jan. 13, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

“Please run your cold water tap a few minutes upon arising the next morning until the stream runs clear,” he said.

Holiday week fire calls listed for South Milam

Fire calls dispatched from the Rockdale Police Department, in addition to Monday’s house fire (see Page 3A) over the past week were listed as follows.

• 7:11 p.m. Thursday, power lines down south of East Avenue B, Milano, Milano VFD.

• 11:47 p.m. Thursday, gas leak reported, Rice and Belton intersection in Rockdale, Rockdale VFD and Atmos Energy crew responded.
