Helphenstine

Services for N.C. “Sam” Helphenstine, 71, of Rockdale, formerly of Caldwell, were to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Phillips & Luckey chapel in Rockdale with Deacon Don Sims and John Fisher officiating.

Mr. Helphenstine died Sunday, Dec. 27, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan.

A Rockdale resident since 1980, he was born Jan. 20, 1938, in Fleming County, Kentucky, to Riley and Lela (Armstrong) Helphenstine.

He married Cheryl Dyer on Dec. 5, 1980, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale.

Mr. Helphenstine worked in maintenance with Richards Memorial Hospital of rockdale, retiring in 2005 after 21 years of service.

He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.

Mr. Helphenstine was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wanda Hickerson.

Survivors are his wife, Cheryl Helphenstine of Rockdale; two sons, Greg Helphenstine of Rockdale, Cliff Helphenstine of Austin; a sister, Jean Carpenter of Fleming County, Kentucky; two aunts, Geneva McIntyre and Beulah Armstrong, both of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kay and John Fisher, Ann Dyer, Darrel Dyer and wife Sherry, all of Rockdale.
