Depot seeks fashions for exhibit; historical society elects slate

Late 1800 and early 1900 clothing and fashions that are in good condition are needed at the I&GN Depot Museum for an exhibit. The clothing would be on loan and displayed at the depot from now until the end of March, according to Mary Phillips, spokesperson.

“Also, if anyone has a mannequin or a dress form that they would loan to the depot during this time, or knows of someone that might have one to loan, we would appreciate that,” Phillips said. “We will be glad to pick up loaned items or meet you at the depot if you would like to bring them.”

New officers— Rockdale Historical Society’s new officers for 2010 are Joyce Dalley, president; Charlie Watson, vice-president; Mary Phillips, secretary; and Pat Jackson, treasurer.

“Please join us at the depot at 7 p.m. each second Tuesday for our monthly meeting,” Phillips said. “A program is presented and a short business meeting follows. Please come, get involved, there are a lot of good things happening.”

Fish fry on Sunday to benefit Thorndale volunteer firefighters

THORNDALE—The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Fish Fry Sunday, Jan. 17 with serving to start at 11 a.m. and continue until “sold out.” The fund-raiser will be held at Fireman’s Hall.

“Plates will be $8 each with all the trimmings and plates will be sold to ‘dine-in’ or there will be a ‘take-out’ line,” said James Davis, Thorndale VFD spokesman.

“Proceeds will go towards our department’s equipment fund,” he said. “We invite ever yone from the area to come out and support our volunteer firefighters.”

Project Graduation fund-raiser offers Visa gift card prizes

Rockdale High School seniors are selling raffle tickets for $1 each as a fund-raiser for Project Graduation 2010, according to Denise Betchan, spokesperson.

Prizes are as follows:

First prize, $500 Visa gift card; second prize, $250 Visa gift card; third prize, $100 Visa gift card.

“Seniors will be selling tickets during all home basketball games,” Betcha n sa id. “ The drawing will be held Feb. 12. So please help a senior and buy a ticket or two or ten!”

Project Graduation 2010 will also hold a bake sale on Saturday, April 3 at Walmart. “That’s the day before Easter,” she said.

4-H Shooting Sports holding fund-raiser

Milam County 4-H Shooting Sports Club is holding a raffle for two different hunts as a fundraiser for the club, spokesperson Chris Cooper said.

Prizes include a $3,000 exotic water buffalo hunt, an exotic goat hunt and a $75 Academy gift card. Tickets are $10 each or six for $50 and the drawing will be held May 15.

Milano Opry, Bailey Bank Committee set fajita meal at show

MILANO—The Milano Opry and the Bailey Bank Building Committee will host a fundraiser meal during the Milano Opry on Saturday, Jan. 16. Beef and chicken fajitas will be sold starting at 5 p.m.

Fajita Wraps will be $3 each. Fajita plates will be $9 and will include 2 wraps, beans, rice and all the trimmings. Fajita meat will be sold by the pound for $7 a pound.

Fajitas will be prepared by one of the Opry’s sponsors, Richard Schneider with B.S. Tire in Thorndale.

The Bailey Bank Building Committee will have drinks and homemade pies for sale, by the slice or whole.

Proceeds will benefit the Milano Opry and the Bailey Bank Building which is being restored into a museum.

The show will start at 7 p.m. and the headliners are “The Tuckers” from Lorena. Special guest will be Mark Faila of Anderson. Tickets for the show are $5 with children age 10-and-under free. Contact Lynn Martin at 979-209- 4563 for more details.

Black Jack VFD to hold chili supper

Black Jack VFD will hold their annual chili supper, cake decorating contest and cake auction on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Serving will begin at 5 p.m., decorating contest at 5:30 and auctin at 6.

Supper tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 2 to 12. (Children under 2 may eat free).

Relay For Life of Milam County will hold its monthly committee meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the Citizens National Bank meeting room in Rockdale, communications chair Marie Bakken said.
