Rising Star Baptist’s golf tourney to raise funds for building

Rising Star Baptist Church has scheduled its annual Golf Classic at Blackhawk Golf Course, in Pflugerville, on Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m.

A free barbecue meal for participants will start at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will include trophies for the winning team and individual trophies, eight free rounds of golf, and more.

Annual St. Paul BBQ meal, auction Jan. 31

THORNDALE—St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale will hold its annual church barbecue meal and auction on Sunday, Jan. 31 at Thorndale Fireman’s Hall.

Serving will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with plates priced at $8 each. Plates will consist of brisket, pinto beans, potato salad, noodles, coleslaw, pickles, onions, bread, tea or coffee.

Dine-in or to-go plates will be available. For senior citizen delivery, call 898-2257 in advance. Desserts will be available for a free-will offering.

An auction will be held at 12:30 p.m. The auction will feature hand-crafted items, baked goods, canned goods and items for all ages. Anyone wishing to donate auction items call Marilyn Johnson at 862-4419.

Men’s breakfast held each second Tuesday

A community men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 to 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, rotating between several local churches.

Purpose is to bring men of the community together for Christian fellowship, said Bill Avrett, spokesman.

Next breakfast will be Feb. 9 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church fellowship hall. All men of the community are invited. First Pentecostal Church fund-raiser

First Pentecostal Church of Rockdale has again scheduled a fund-raiser, offering quality portraits, Sissy Leonard, spokesperson, has announced.

One studio-quality 10x13 color portrait from Classic Color Photographics will be offered for only $10 with no obligation for further purchase, she said.

Photos will be taken at the church location, 1306 Cameron Avenue, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6. “Last year this fundraiser was a great success and the photos were awesome,” Leonard said.

St. Joseph Ladies hold party for Manor Oaks

St. Joseph Catholic Church Ladies Society sponsored a Manor Oaks Nursing Center birthday party on Thursday, Jan. 14 for Manor Oaks residents with birthdays this month.

Cake and punch were served, brought by Vivian Yezak, Pat Barcak, Florian Skubal, Pat Watson and Nettilee Korenek.

Also, on Monday, Jan. 18 the ladies played bingo with Manor Oaks residents with 11 members attending. Helpers were Lillian Krenek, Elsie Svrcek, Pat Watson and Nettilee Korenek. Next bingo will be Monday, Feb. 15 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Manor Oaks. Anyone wishing to help can call Nettille Korenek, 446-4159.
