First of three ‘wrong day’ meetings for RISD; TAKS report on agenda

If you’re looking for the Rockdale ISD board of trustees to meet on its regular date—the third Monday of the month—you’ll have to wait until April.

Board members will meet at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the Central Administration Building for the annual Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) report, then go into regular session at 5:30.

It’s the first of three consecutive months where school board regular meetings are being altered by holidays.

“The third Monday of January was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day,” Dr. Howell Wright, Rockdale ISD superintendent, said.

“In February the third Monday is President’s Day,” he said. “And in March the third Monday falls during spring break.”

The school board should return to its regular meeting date on April 19.

Bond construction

Trustees will hear another report on completion of the district’s bond construction during Thursday’s meeting.

They will also get a report on Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) exit-level test, which all graduating seniors are required to pass.

Other agenda items include:

• Discussion of district facilities use.

• Reports on 2008-09 Performance-Based Monitoring System and Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives.

• Approval of students for high school graduation.

• Call the May 8 school board election and okay holding a joint election with the City of Rockdale.

Terms expiring are those of board president James Birkhead (Place 5), Michelle Lehmkuhl (Place 3) and Lee Jenkins (Place 4).
