Girls close out first round of league play on a high note
The Rockdale Lady Tigers snapped a six-game district losing streak dating back to last season, by taming Taylor 31-25 Friday on the road.
The Lady Tigers slipped back into the loss column on Tuesday night with a 36-21 setback to Cameron, also on the road.

First time Lady Eagle lifters carry weight of championship
CA MERON—In their f irst ever meet, the newly formed Milano girls powerlifting took the women’s team championship at Saturday’s Cameron Invitational at Yoe Gym.
The Lady Eagles had three first places, three seconds and three thirds to score 45 points, just enough to edge out Class 3A Navasota who scored 31, according to MHS powerlifting coach Sean Connor. Full Story
Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs cruise through early district slates
Lady Dogs allowing just 31 points a game; Bulldogs picking up offensive steam
The No. 19 Thorndale Lady Dogs continue to pound through District 27-A opponents, topping both Granger and Holland over the last week.
Almost halfway through with league play, Thorndale has outscored its loop opponents 251- 124.

Litchauer, Chelf power RHS team
THR A LL— Greg Chelf and Aubrie Litchauer grabbed firsts in their respective weight classes to lead the RHS powerlifting team in its first competition of the year.
Chelf, a senior competing in the 148-pound class, totaled 905 pounds to take first place.
Litchauer, in the 105-pound category, rang up a 360-pound total for the victory. Full Story
Knights of Columbus
free throw contest Sat.
All boys and girls, ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2010 Knights of Columbus free throw championship.
The event will be held this Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. at the new RHS gymnasium. Registration will begin at noon and there is no entry fee. Full Story

Golf tourney to raise funds for Rising Star construction
Rising Star Baptist Church has scheduled its annual Golf Classic at Blackhawk Golf Course, in Pflugerville, on Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m.
A free barbecue meal for participants will start at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will include trophies for the winning team and individual trophies, eight free rounds of golf, and more. Full Story
