Shooter gets attempted murder indictment
A 22-year-old Milano man has been indicted for attempted capital murder of a police officer in connection with a shootout with Rockdale Police Ofc. S. A. Smith.
Erric Scott Anderson was also indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon of a public servant during Thursday’s grand jury session, according to Prosecutor Kerry Spears. Full Story

Like any normal five-yearold, Janey Cleveland enjoys watching cartoons (her favorite is Scooby Doo), playing with her two sisters, doing arts and crafts and cooking with her family. She even received her first cookbook at Christmas.

School to host two-day basketball tourney
Gause Junior High will host a two-day basketball tournament this weekend at the Gause ISD gym. According to coach Chad Lagrone, games with begin on Friday at 1 p.m. with eight games being played that day. There will be 13 games played on Saturday, with the first one starting at 8 a.m. The school’s Athletic Booster Club will have a full concession stand both days. Full Story

Unemployment rate jumps back over 10%
Milam spent 10 months of 2009 over 10-percent jobless benchmark
The year 2009 is one for the record books, and where the county jobless rate is concerned, it was the worst showing since the Workforce Commission began keeping records.
Milam’s December unemployment rate was 10.3 percent, giving the county its tenth month of double-digit joblessness in 2009. Full Story
