Shooter gets attempted murder indictment

A 22-year-old Milano man has been indicted for attempted capital murder of a police officer in connection with a shootout with Rockdale Police Ofc. S. A. Smith.

Erric Scott Anderson was also indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon of a public servant during Thursday’s grand jury session, according to Prosecutor Kerry Spears.

Rockdale Police Lt. J. D. Newlin said Anderson and Ofc. S. A. Smith exchanged fire just after midnight Nov. 22, 2009, outside Rockdale’s former Wal-Mart.

Anderson was wounded in the shoulder, forearm and hip. Smith was not hit.

Newlin said Smith encountered Anderson behind a pillar while investigating suspicious activity in the parking lot.

Newlin said the suspect fired six shots from a 9-millimeter handgun and Smith returned fire, hitting Anderson.

Anderson was treated at Scott & White Hospital, Temple, and was released about one week later.

Spears listed other indictments as follows:

• Casey Brandon Allen, 29, College Station, forgery by passing.

• William Thomas Shafer, 31, Belton, forgery by passing (enhanced).

• Gabriel Ray Vargas, 32, Temple, evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

• Nathan Joel Griffith, 26, Thorndale, copper theft, two counts.

• James Melton Wayne Crawford, 22, Rockdale, sexual assault of a child.

• Kevin Dewayne Cloer, 34, Rockdale, sexual assault of a child, two counts.

• Edward James Miller, 45, Rockdale, possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram).

• Tomas Luna, 22, Rockdale, possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram).

• Albert Sidney Kincaid, 53, Novice, driving while intoxicated, third or more offense.

• Arthur Lee Vossler Jr., 28, Red Oak, driving while intoxicated, third or more offense.

• K arl Jasper Bradley, 45, Cameron, possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram).

• John Michael Coldiron, 23, Rockdale, unlawful possession of firearm by felon (enhanced) and possession of a controlled substance (1 to 4 grams) with intent to deliver.

• Wesley Hampton Treaddwell, 44, Rockdale, possession of marijuana (4 ounces to 5 pounds), possession of a controlled substance (1 to 4 grams).

• Charles Ray Porter, 19, Cameron, burglary of a building.

• Adrian John San Miguel Jr., 34, Thorndale, assault causes bodily injury/family violence (enhanced), two counts.

• Shasta Delane Tollison, 37, Gatesville, forgery by passing (enhanced).

• Vincent Llanas, 27, Thrall, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; deadly conduct, two counts; endangering a child, two counts.

• Darril H. Karl, 31, Bell County, burglary of a habitation (enhanced).

• James Lawrence Beard, 26, Temple, possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram).

• Sederrick Ezell Alcorn, 24, Rockdale, evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
