Girl Scouts holding annual cookie sale

Milano Girl Scouts are out in our community selling their delicious cookies. If you get a chance, help them out by buying a box (price $3.50).

Jacob Willingham, a freshman at Milano High, showed his Beefmaster heifer calf “Texas” on Jan. 23 at the Fort Worth Stock Show and brought home the Grand Champion Calf Division honors. He was accompanied by his parents, Jay and Darla Willingham, along with Pevine and Linda Hicks and Tashena Butler. He will show Texas in all the major livestock shows in the next two months. Good luck!

Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s annual chili supper and silent auction is just two weekends away, Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Milano Civic Center. Serving will begin at 4:30 p.m. until sold out. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. There will also be a silent auction.

The group is also selling tickets for $1 each or six for $5. Prizes include a Henry .22 rifle, Mossburg Model 500 12-gauge and Walmart gift cards of $100, $50 and $25. Winners will be drawn the night of the chili supper and you need not be present to win. Tickets are available from any Milano fireman.

Family and friends gathered at Banda’s Restaurant in Rockdale on Jan. 24 to help Queena Thurman celebrate her 80th birthday. Her actual birthday is Jan. 26. All of her children were in attendance, along with other relatives who enjoyed great food and birthday cake.

We extend our sympathy to the family of Matthew (Bud) Hawkins Jr. Services were held on Jan. 26 at Goodwill Baptist Church in Milano. Sur vivors include his sister Lillian Kelley of Milano.

Sympathy also goes out to the family of Hesta Graham Garbs who died Jan. 22. Graveside services were held Jan. 24 at the Hurt-Graham Cemetery.

Don’t forget there are extra yearbooks from years past for sale at the Milano High. The books are $15 each. Call the office at 455-9333 for details.

Congratulations to the junior high girls basketball team on defeating Thrall Monday 27-25.

February is a month of celebrating in the Cass family. My late parents’ anniversary is Feb. 1. My twin brother and I celebrate a birthday on Feb. 3, my sister Edith’s is Feb. 6 and brother Jimmy on Feb. 27. Nephews Craig Lee celebrates on Feb. 1 and Lance Lee on Feb. 19.
