Band Boosters’ spaghetti supper Monday at RJH
Rockdale Band Boosters’ annual spaghetti supper fundraiser will be held Monday, Feb. 8 in the junior-high school commons, Pam Pruett, president, has announced.
Serving will be from 5 until 8 p.m. at the commons. “To-go” plates will be available beginning at 4:30 p.m., she said.
“This supper is our main fundraiser of the year in support of our school band program,” Pruett said. Entertainment will be provided by the Rockdale ISD bands—sixth grade through RHS.
Historical society plans programs at meetings
Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 9, the Rockdale Historical Society will host brief programs before its monthly meetings.
“Our first program this Tuesday will be on railroad safety by society member Bert Dockall, who has worked on the depot restoration project for more than 10 years,” Charlie Watson, society vice-president, said.
“We plan for the programs to last 30 to 45 minutes and then we will hold our monthly meetings,” he said.
The Rockdale Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the historic I&GN Depot-Museum, corner of Main and Milam.
“Visitors are always welcome,” Watson said.
Red Hat Society invites members
Rockdale’s Ya Yas Chapter of the Red Hat Society is open for new members.
The Societ y is made up of women over age 50 who wear red hats and purple outfits when they get together, according to Louise Mynar.
“If you’d like to spend some time with other women doing fun things such as eating out, shopping, traveling, going to the theater, movies or getting together to play games, you will love the society,” Mynar said.

Depot seeks fashions for historical exhibit
Late 1800 and early 1900 clothing and fashions are needed at the I&GN Depot Museum for an exhibit. The clothing would be on loan and displayed at the depot from now until the end of March, according to Mary Phillips, spokesperson.
“Also, if anyone has a mannequin or a dress form that they would loan during this time, or knows of someone that might, we would appreciate that,” Phillips said. “We will be glad to pick up loaned items or meet you at the depot if you would like to bring them.”

Rockdale Lions set Pancake/Bacon Supper
Rockdale Noon Lions will hold their 10th annual Pancake & Bacon Supper on Fat Tuesday, February 16 from 5-7 p.m. in the new Rockdale Intermediate School, according to Mike Pruett, spokesperson.
“The amazing Rising Star Baptist Church choir will provide the entertainment for this year’s event,” Pruett said. “They will sing solo numbers, then the entire choir will sing together at 6:30 p.m. You don’t want to miss this great entertainment and, of course, our famous Pancakes and Bacon,” he said.
A love offering will be taken and all proceeds will go the the Rising Star Building Fund.
Project Graduation fund-raiser under way
Rockdale High School seniors are selling tickets for $1 each as a fund-raiser for Project Graduation 2010, according to Denise Betchan, spokesperson. Prizes are: 1st, $500 Visa gift card; 2nd, $250 Visa card; 3rd, $100 Visa card.
“Seniors are selling tickets during home basketball games,” Betchan said. The drawing will be held Friday, Feb. 12.
Project Graduation 2010 will hold a bake sale on Saturday, April 3, the day before Easter, at Walmart.
4-H Shooting Sports
Milam County 4-H Shooting Sports Club members are selling chances for two different hunts as a fund-raiser, spokesperson Chris Cooper said.
Prizes include a $3,000 exotic water buffalo hunt, an exotic goat hunt and a $75 Academy gift card. Tickets are $10 each or six for $50. Drawing will be May 15.

Milano VFD’s annual chili supper Saturday
MILANO—Milano Volunteer Fire Department will hold its yearly chili supper and silent auction Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Milano Civic Center, Carolyn Vinton has announced.
Serving (eat-in or take-out) will begin at 4:30 p.m. until sold out. Prices (including meals, drinks, dessert) are $6 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. The silent auction will end at 6:30 p.m.
The VFD is selling tickets, $1 each or 6 for $5, on the following: a Henry .22 rifle, Mossburg Model 500 .12 gauge, and Walmart gift cards of $100, $50 and $25. Winners will be drawn the night of the chili supper and you need not be present to win.

Walmart Relay team sets fund-raisers
Walmart Crusaders for a Cure Relay For Life team will hold a Valentine’s Karaoke Dance at The Ranch in Rockdale from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, according to team spokesperson Terry Blackmon. They will have silent auction, sell roses and charge a $5 cover. Those attending can bring own karaoke music, Black- mon said.
From now until Feb. 28, Crusaders for a Cure will sell Links of Hope to be displayed in the store’s Garden Center. Price is $1 a link either “In Honor” or “In Memory” of those with cancer. The team will use the links to decorate its campsite at Relay on April 16. You can see any Walmart associate to purchase a link, Blackmon said.
The team has also set a fish fry/ bake sale in front of the store on Friday, April 2 (Good Friday).
