Jail term returned for rural burglaries
A second Houston resident has been convicted in connection with a series of rural break-ins during the summer of 2009.
Mario Moreno, 27, pleaded guilty to burglary of a building recently in 20th District Court and drew a 12-month state jail term, plus $2,130 restitution. Full Story
Mailbox theft call leads officer to cocaine arrest
A call alerting police to a mailbox tampering suspect Saturday resulted in a cocaine possession arrest.
Police Chief Thomas Harris said Ofc. Stephen Goodrich was dispatched to suspicious activity involving the possibility a suspect had been taking items out of mailboxes. Full Story
Sheriff warns of e-mail scam
Someone is tr ying to scam potential Milam County “Good Samar itans” out of $500 to $1,000.
Sheriff David Greene warned this week an e-mail is making the rounds asking for funds to help a “stranded traveler.”
“Someone has gotten hold of e-mail lists and is sending emails posing as the list’s owner,” Greene said. Full Story
Troopers called to area accidents
Milam County state troopers investigated a pair of accidents in the Rockdale area during the past week.
The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department and Trooper Erik Gaston answered a call to a two vehicle accident on US 77 at the FM 908 intersection just south of Rockdale at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday. Full Story
