Two persons filed for the Rockdale ballot on Monday, first filing day for the May 8 city school and hospital district elections, but the biggest news came from someone who decided not to file.

County judge’s race leads all in spending
As primary early voting gets under way Tuesday the county political race generating the lion’s share of expenditures, or contributions, so far is for county judge.
Through Jan. 31, the last reporting date to the county clerk, the three candidates for that position have listed expenses totaling $10,815 and contributions totaling $8,104. Full Story
Early voting to start Tuesday for March 2 primary elections
Early voting for the March 2 Democratic and Republican primaries gets under way Tuesday with 21 candidates on the ballots.
Three candidates, two Democrats and one Republican, are seeking the county judge post.
There are two other contested races on the Democratic ballot and the first contested county level race ever on a Milam Republican ballot. Full Story
RISD trustees talk baseball field, gym work
Rockdale ISD trustees, meeting in special session Thursday in the Central Administration Building, discussed facility needs in upcoming years and two possible projects came to the forefront:
• Air conditioning the 74-year-old elementary gym and replacing AC units on older campuses.

A flapjack feast as Lions host annual supper here Tuesday
Rockdale Noon Lions Club will host its 10th annual pancake and bacon supper on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 5-7 p.m. in the new Rockdale Intermediate School, Mike Pruett, publicist, announced.
Besides being the first event by a public group at the new campus cafetorium, the event will also feature some heavenly music to go with the flapjacks. Full Story

Local 4-H kids compete at San Antonio Livestock Show
Gause 4-H Club members Phillip Rasco and Kendall Lee were in San Antonio over the weekend to participate in the San Antonio Livestock Show’s Consumer Decision Making Contest. The Milam County 4-H team that Kendall was on placed first in the junior division. Phillip’s senior division team placed seventh. Congratulations to these teams. Full Story
