On Tuesday, Toby Johnson filed for the west ward seat currently held by Tom Fisher, who had signed up last week.

Miss Mexico cooks up pageant win
‘Miss Globe’ nets $600 for museum
Miss Mexico, Salsa Picante Con Una Tortilla, told the audience of more than 500 in the RHS auditorium Thursday night that her life pretty much revolves around tortillas.
In fact her talent in the annual Miss Globe competition was “making tortillas.” That performance basically involved opening a package and throwing tortillas into the crowd. Full Story

Tigers close out season
Cameron cancels any playoff plans for Rock in 2010
The Rockdale Tigers closed out a most disappointing season Tuesday night with a 67-64 loss to Madisonville on the road.
The loss leaves the Tigers dead even for the season at 16-16. They finish 4-8 in District 24-3A and in sixth place behind Taylor who prevented Cameron from entering the playoffs with a 63-61 win Tuesday. Full Story

The owner, Rusty Gregory, says this is a licensed, certified child development center and serves pre-school 3-5 years old.

Sales tax rebates down
December sales down 12% or more locally
As expected, with fewer temporary workers in town and an economy dealing with layoffs, December’s sales were down about 12 percent, according to the State Comptroller’s office.
Rebates for Februar y, which reflect December sales, showed a drop of 12 percent in Rockdale. Year-to-date (YTD) sales show a 16 percent decline. Full Story
