City ballot gets first race; two more file

Dalley Dalley Two filings during the past week have given Rockdale city voters their first contest for the May 8 election.

On Tuesday, Toby Johnson filed for the west ward seat currently held by Tom Fisher, who had signed up last week.

Joyce Dalley filed Friday for the council slot currently held by J. T. Talley. Talley has not filed for re-election.

Collier Perry remains the only candidate for mayor, a position where incumbent John Shoemake has indicated he will not seek another term.

Candidates may file at City Hall.

School ballot

Elsewhere, the filing pace was extremely slow.

So far the only filing in the Rockdale ISD school board race is for Place 5 where Wenda Jo Dyer is seeking the position being vacated by retiring school board president James Birkhead.

Other terms expiring are those of Michelle Lehmkuhl (Place 3) and Lee Jenkins (Place 4).

Johnson Johnson Filing is at the Central Administration Building.

No filings

There were no filings reported through Tuesday in the following entities with the terms of the following incumbents expiring:

Rockda le Hospita l District— Place 1 (east ward), Larry Jackson Sr.; Place 3 (west ward), Carl Hudson; at large, Richard Burns. Filing is at R ichards Memorial Hospital.

Milano ISD— Steve Walker, Margaret Plentl, Kevin Love. Filing is at the administration office in the old high school/juniorhigh.

City of Milano— Mayor Billy Barnett, councilman Edward Westbrook. Filing is at Milano Civic Center, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. only, weekdays.

Thorndale ISD— Trustees Brian Fisher, David Hall, Trey Gilchrist. Filing at Thorndale ISD Administration Building.

City of Thorndale— Counci lmen Sam P icket t, G era ld Niemtschk, Jack Willis.

Filing at City Hall.
