Reading club accepting scholarship paperwork

Applications are now available for the annual Bootside Peebles Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Linwood Acres Garden Club.

Entry forms are available at The Reporter, in the RHS counselors’ office or by calling Elizabeth Holloway at 446-2168.

Deadline to apply is Friday, April 16.

Applicants must be pursuing a career in a field related to medicine

“Age is not a factor for eligibility,” Holloway said. “Seniors in high school or adults returning to school are encouraged to apply.”

Garden club offers college scholarship

Linwood Acres Garden Club sponsors a scholarship each year to a graduating senior planning to major in horticulture, floriculture, environmental design, or any related field.

Application forms have been placed with counselors of Milano, Rockdale and Thorndale High S chool s. Intere sted sen ior s should see their counselor and return the completed application form by April 5. ‘Students of the week’ named at junior-high

Rockdale Junior-High assistant principal has announced the “Students of the Week” at the school for Feb. 19.

They are: Emily McCoy, eighth grade; John Rivers, seventh grade; and Jake Land, sixth grade.

New scholarship slated by Crown Garden Club

The Crown Garden Club is offering a new scholarship this year to an R HS senior w it h plans to study horticulture or a related field.

Application forms are available with the RHS counselors and should be returned to Peggy Cooke, 1001 Cady Road, Rockdale, TX 76567 no later than April 15.

The scholarship will be paid to any accredited two or four year college or university or any vocational technical school.

Cooke said the scholarship will be based on need, academics, leadership and community service and requirements will include a brief essay on the student’s reasons for wanting/needing the scholarship.
