Plane crash into Austin building claimed local man’s close friend
When Larry Jackson of Rockdale was last with his good friend Vernon Hunter of Austin, a Valentine’s Day lunch with their wives, they laughed a lot in talking about future plans.

Hospital to surrender sales tax

The Rockdale Hospital District has unanimously voted to surrender the halfcent sales tax it has collected for the past 16 years in favor of economic development for Rockdale. Full Story
Rockdale ISD re-hires administrators
Superintendent gets raise as school board meets Monday
Rockdale ISD trustees, meeting in regular session Monday, okayed a salary increase for Supt. Dr. Howell Wright and re-hired five administrators.
Dr. Wright, who recently began his second year as RISD superintendent, received a 3.3-percent raise to $108,500 annually.

Early voting ends Friday, ballot Tuesday
Early voting for the March 2 Democratic and Republican primaries ends on Friday and election day is Tuesday, March 2.
Through Tuesday, 244 voted in Rockdale, 484 in Cameron, 66 in Thorndale and 35 in Buckholts.
That breaks down to 355 Democrats and 225 Republicans, a total of 580 with mail-in and military.
