Two statebound, eight ‘superior’ for band

Reporter/Mike Brown Eight Rockdale High School Big Blue Band students received Division I (Superior) ratings at UIL solo/ensemble competition Saturday at Elgin High School, according to director Joe Ray.

Qualifying for the State Contest in May were Heather Vargas on flute and Julie Hromcik on clarinet.

Ray said other students winning Superior ratings were:

Braden Leech, trumpet solo; Andey Perez, flute solo; Brittany Barnett, Flute solo; Clarissa DeLeon, clarinet solo; Beth Davis, clarinet solo; Jasmine Hopkins, clarinet solo.

Ray said students receiving a rating of Division II (Excellent) on solos were:

Ginny Flores, snare drum; Grant Galbreath, snare drum; Bryana Bryce, flute.

He listed students receiving a rating of Division II (Excellent) on ensembles were: Andreana Gonzalez, Tyler King, Melinda Perez and Abby Matthews, French horn.

Also, Hugo Ayala, Ginny Flores, Clayton Merka and Annie Wilde, percussion

Also, Julie Hromcik, Beth Davis, Clarissa DeLeon, Heather Atchley, Jasmine Hopkins, Ariel Buentello, Sarah Eaker and Jamie Wood, clarinet choir.

Also, Corolyn Holub, Cari Nadeau, Christa Pelzel and Raynissa Jackson, flute quartet.

He said students receiving ratings of Division III (Good) on solos were: Kenzie Oliver, French Horn; Heather Atchley, clarinet.
