Choir members earn high marks at competition

Members of the Rockdale High School and Junior High choirs brought home numerous medals at recent contest, Mary Ray, RISD choir director said.

RHS choir members competed in the UIL Vocal Solo Competition on Feb. 26 at Westwood High School.

Angelica Flores received a Division I (superior) rating on her performance. Earning a Division II (excellent) ratings were Lova Davis, Bernadette DeLeon, Hannah Prestridge, Cindy Pruette and Joe Ramey.

Junior high choir members competed at the Blinn College Solo and Ensemble Contest in Brenham on Friday and all brought back Superior ratings on their performances, Ray said.

Those bringing home blue medals for vocal solos include: Tina Contreras, Jacob Machac, Cierra Pomykal, Miranda Sappington and Lois Wintz.

The seventh and eighth grade treble ensemble of Contreras, Pomykal, Sappington, Wintz and Erika Robertson also received a blue medal.

“These students did an outstanding job representing our school,” Ray said.
