Rockdale residents earn TSTC Honor Roll

WACO–Four Rockdale residents have been named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at TSTC for the Fall 2009 semester.

Justin Bruedigan, an Electrical Power Control and Technology student, and Rodney Barcak, an Industrial Systems and Engineering Technology major, and Brandon San Migel and Bryan Thornton, both Instrumentation, Computerized Controls and Robotics students.

The Dean’s Honor Roll recognizes the scholastic achievement of students with a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 for the semester.

RHS Project Grad meeting moved

The Project Graduation meeting scheduled for March 1 has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 at the Rockdale Jr. High Commons.

New scholarship slated by Crown Garden Club

The Crown Garden Club is offering a new scholarship this year to an R HS senior w it h plans to study horticulture or a related field.

Application forms are available with the RHS counselors and should be returned to Peggy Cooke, 1001 Cady Road, Rockdale, TX 76567 no later than April 15.

The scholarship will be paid to any accredited two or four year college or university or any vocational technical school.

Cooke said the scholarship will be based on need, academics, leadership and community service and requirements will include a brief essay on the student’s reasons for wanting/needing the scholarship.

Milano Elementary sets Pre-K, K registration

Registration for both Pre-K and Kindergarten for the 2010-11 school year at Milano Elementary will be 12:30-2:30 p.m. Friday, March 5 in the school cafeteria, according to principal Stephanie Longoria.

Requirements to be eligible for Pre-Kindergarten: The child must be four on or before Sept. 1, 2010. The child must qualify for the free or reduced lunch program or by having a limited use of the English language.

Longoria also said that MISD is conducting an interest inventory concerning three-year-olds for Pre-K in 2010-11. These students must be three on or before Sept. 1, 2010. Please come to Round-Up if you have a qualifying child.

To be eligible for Kindergarten, the child must be 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2010.

Parents should bring the following records on day of registration: immunization records, copy of the Social Security card, birth certificate or proof of birth and parent’s drivers license.

This will be the last opportunity to enroll until school starts next year, Longoria said. For more information, call 512-455- 2062.

Garden club offers college scholarship

Linwood Acres Garden Club sponsors a scholarship each year to a graduating senior planning to major in horticulture, floriculture, environmental design, or any related field.

Application forms have been placed with counselors of Milano, Rockdale and Thorndale High Schools. Interested seniors should see their counselor and return the completed application form by April 5. Reading club accepting scholarship paperwork

Applications are now available for the annual Bootside Peebles Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Linwood Acres Garden Club.

Entry forms are available at The Reporter, in the RHS counselors’ office or by calling Elizabeth Holloway at 446-2168.

Deadline to apply is Friday, April 16.

Applicants must be pursuing a career in a field related to medicine

“Age is not a factor for eligibility,” Holloway said. “Seniors in high school or adults returning to school are encouraged to apply.”
