RHS looking for new band director

Ray Ray The Rockdale ISD is looking for a new band director after Joe Ray, who had led the program for the past five years, resigned effective at the end of the school year.

School truste es accepted Ray’s resignation in a noon Monday called meeting.

Also accepted were the resignations of high school teachercoach Hilary Anderson and intermediate school teacher-coach Jamie DeWitt.

Both are also effective at the end of the school year.

Stability

Ray declined to comment about the resignation to The Reporter.

He was hired in July, 2004, replacing Richard Prater who served as band director only from January to the end of the 2003- 04 school year.

Prior to Ray’s hiring, the RHS Big Blue Band had five directors in six years.

Ray is a native of Oklahoma City and has 38 years in music education.

He came to Rockdale from Corpus Christi King High School.

Ray’s wife Mary is RHS and Rockdale Junior-High School choir director.

In other business Tuesday, board members:

• Okayed a $32,189 contract with Stence Electric for an electrical upgrade at the elementary campus.

• Approved a budget amendment as presented by Karl Kacir, assistant superintendent for business.
