Whitmore piano students earn awards at junior music featival

Local piano students participated in the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Junior Festival held at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Belton, on Feb. 27, according to their piano teacher Dixie Whitmore.

More than 150 students from Central Texas performed at the festival in piano, violin or voice.

Keyboard Melody Makers Junior Club members participating in piano were Ashton Betchan, Brian Blanchard, Emilie Compton, Geritt Davenport, Mattie Fisher, Amy Gardenhire, Julia Harwell, Kauner Howell, Kaybee Nelson, Abigail Olson and Mary Unnasch. All received a superior or excellent ratings.

Earning their first gold cup in piano were Betchan, Blanchard, Compton and Davenport. Betchan, Compton and Davenport also earned gold cups in the hymn playing category.

Keyboard Melody Makers Junior Club, with Whitmore as counselor, is sponsored by the Matinee Musical Club, a member of the Texas and National Federation of Music Clubs.
