One injured in US 79 wreck

A 71-year-old Palestine woman was treated at a Bryan hospital after a one-vehicle accident Sunday morning near Gause.

Trooper Mark Berry listed the driver as Connie Buckner.

Gause Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson Debbie Todd said the car went through a fence and came to rest at the edge of a pond five miles west of Gause at 7:03 a.m.

An AMR ambulance crew and the Milam County Sheriff’s department also responded.

Moderate vehicle damage was reported.

Troopers reported no injuries in two other Rockdale-area accidents over the past week.

Trooper Broderick Sims said damages were extensive when an 18-wheeler overturned before daybreak Thursday just north of San Gabriel.

Sims said the wreck was reported at 3:30 a.m. on FM 3061.

Driver was listed as Epifano Portillo, 55, of Rosebud. Sims said both the tractor and trailer of the truck rig were damaged.

Thorndale volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel were dispatched.

Trooper David Yarbrough was dispatched to an accident on US 77, just north of Minerva at 8:17 p.m. Thursday.

Yarbrough said a vehicle driven by Shannon McCoy, 29, of Smithville, swerved to miss another vehicle and ran off the roadway.

He said undercarriage damage was reported.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
