WAKEUP CALL Rockdale volunteer firefighters empty hoses of excess water before heading back to the station after an early morning call Friday. The RVFD was called out to a burning vehicle on US 79 in front of the KC Hall at 7:59 a.m. Seven hours later volunteers were back in the same area, extinguishing a grass fire just east of the hall. That call came in at 3:01 p.m. Volunteers were called to Veterans Park at 7:09 p.m. Saturday for a burning trash can. A call 10 minutes later turned out to be a smoking barbecue pit. The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
