Thorndale Jamboree to celebrate 15 years

Thorndale VFW Post 4009 and Ladies Auxiliary will celebrate its 15th anniversary of the Thorndale Country & Gospel Music Jamboree.

“We have completed 15 years of shows and are beginning our 16th year on Monday, March 22,” said Marjorie Menzel, spokesperson. “The music starts at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month.

“The first show was on March 27, 1995. This was going to be a trial just to see how it would go,” Menzel said. “Now we are celebrating 15 years and looking forward to many more.”

Two house band members from the first show are still performing each month. They are Duck Shuffield from Rockdale and Freddie Wuensche from Thorndale.

Other house band members are Derial Lutz from Pflugerville, Chip Dunsmore from Cameron, Glenn Schneider from Salty, Paul Schlesinger from Taylor, A. T. Shuffield from Gause and Mike Herrod from Milano. Performers are invited monthly to appear on the different shows.

Emcee for the evening is Ima Jean Weise accompanied by VFW Post 4009 Quartermaster Kenneth Menzel. The kitchen will be open at 5:30 with sausage wraps, chicken salad sandwiches, homemade pies and desserts and drinks.

For the anniversary show, door prizes donated by the VFW and Auxiliary will be given away. This is an alcohol-free program.

Proceeds for the shows and kitchen go toward helping the Post and Auxiliary with their different programs. Free cookies, tea and coffee are also available.
